Local Satellite/Umbrella/Independent Schools
March 23, 2008
Homeschooling umbrella schools are legal entities established to provide help with record keeping. They have the legal standing of an independent school. If you join one of them, your child's school records will be sent to them. You need not submit an intent to homeschool form with the district if your umbrella school is located in this state as private schools are unregulated in Colorado. Simply notify the district that your child will be enrolled in a private school. If your child has never been in the public school system, you may join an umbrella school without advising the school system of your intent to homeschool. If you do not join an umbrella school, you must notify the district office of your intent to homeschool to be within the law.
